Consideration for a college-sponsored Merit Scholarship award is limited to Semifinalists who qualify as Finalists and who also: 1. report to NMSC that a sponsor college is their first choice (see Sponsors of National Merit Scholarships in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program); 2. have applied for admission to the sponsor college; and 3. A total of 7,267 Merit Scholar® designees in 2022 were chosen from the Finalist group to receive Merit Scholarship awards worth a total of $28 million.
